HDMI sound not working after upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04

After upgrading to ubuntu 20.04 the hdmi sound stopped working. If I select headphones as audio output they work well, but if I change to HDMI output it doesn’t work.

I did this and it solved the problem:

rm -r ~/.config/pulse/
reboot

If I would have read further, I could have resolved it without needing to reboot:

killall pulseaudio; rm -rf ~/.config/pulse/* ; rm -rf ~/.pulse*

Just replace “State” with “Media” in this quote from Joseph Goebbels

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

Cloning Linux

With the announcement of Max OSX 11 (XI?), looking to phase out the main MacBook Pro. One of the best parts about running OSX has been using Carbon Copy Cloner to generate bootable backups.

Now that we’ll be going 100% Ubuntu, it’s time to find a replacement for CCC. This is currently where my research stops.

https://alternativeto.net/software/carbon-copy-cloner/?platform=linux

https://superuser.com/questions/72708/is-there-anything-like-carbon-copy-cloner-ccc-for-linux

https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-newbie-8/easiest-way-to-clone-image-an-ubuntu-drive-754138/

https://sourceforge.net/projects/g4l/

I’m guessing I’ll start with experimenting with rsync and if that doesn’t work well, I’ll probably look at Clonezilla next. I’ve been spoiled with CCC in that the cloning can happen with OSX up and running, as opposed to having to boot a CD or USB drive with a dedicated program. We’ll see where the adventure takes me.

Free Online OCR Services

Tried a handful of Free Online OCR Services, and these two seemed to do the best with a photograph of a typed piece of paper. I’m sure if the paper was scanned in, they would have had phenomenal results.

News Sources We Like

Do you get tired of hearing the same old manipulated dreck from the “mainstream” media. When I say “mainstream”, I mean the most in-your-face “news” sources that are generally the furthest away from reality.

Websites for publishing your garage sale

Are you going to have a garage sale? Here are sites that we list our garage sales.

Our original default was always CraigsList.org, it’s free and easy to use.

In an effort to generate more traffic, we investigated other sites to list our garage sale on. Interestingly enough, these all seem to be part of the same network, the interface is the same, and if you’re willing to spend the money, they’ll duplicate your listing across the other sites. It’s possible to list your garage sale for free, but there seems to be impediments to encourage to you pay for their services. For instances the photo handling is cumbersome. Enough so, that one suspects that they’ve made it extra complicated to try to get you to pay for the multiple listings so that you don’t have to go through the chore of uploading and rotating images on every site. Each site will send out an email to their members alerting them to garage sales in their area, and that seems to help increase traffic to our sales, so we’ll keep using them all (one at a time, for free). Also, as far as we can tell, there’s no way to duplicate a listing (like on Craig’s List) so you have to recreate your sale for every instance on every site. Which can get real time consuming if you’re running your sale over multiple weekends.

In case you ever want to buy me something…

I got something like these at Disney World around 30 years ago. They were really cool, but I just can justify these now. The more realistic looking the better, oh and jelly bean, not chocolate centers. 🙂
